Technical SEO for Shopify stores

    Shopify SEO Services

Shopify hides its SEO problems well. Duplicate collection paths, variant URLs, filter combinations, thin collection pages and app-injected scripts all cost rankings — and none of them are fixed by an SEO app. This is Shopify SEO done in Liquid, in the sitemap logic and in the theme.

    Problems I Solve

Symptoms this engagement is built to fix

Products reachable at both /products/x and /collections/y/products/x, splitting internal link signals.

Filter and sort parameters generating crawlable near-duplicate collection URLs.

Collection pages too thin to rank for the category terms that drive revenue.

Product schema from an app conflicting with the theme's own markup.

App scripts loading storewide and failing interaction metrics on mobile.

Blog and collection pages competing for the same query with neither winning.

The platform problems SEO apps do not solve

Shopify's URL structure is opinionated in ways that quietly cost rankings. Collection-scoped product URLs duplicate every product; tag-based filtering creates crawlable combinations; pagination and sort parameters multiply the same listing; and the automatically generated sitemap includes URLs you would rather not emphasise. Because you cannot edit robots.txt behaviour or sitemap generation as freely as on WordPress, the fix has to be engineered: internal links pointing consistently at the canonical product path, robots.txt.liquid rules for parameter patterns, theme-level canonical control, and deliberate decisions about which filtered views deserve a real, indexable landing page.

    Collections are your ranking assets

In most stores the money terms are category terms, and the collection page is the page that should win them. Yet collections usually ship as a grid with a one-line description. I rebuild the top collections around search demand: genuinely useful copy that answers buying questions, structured internal links to subcategories and best sellers, supporting buying-guide content that links up, and ItemList markup. Where filter values have real standalone demand — a brand, a material, a size — those become static optimised landing pages instead of parameter URLs.

Structured data that matches the page

Rich results depend on Product and Offer markup that exactly matches the rendered price, currency and availability. The most common failure I fix is app-generated schema drifting from what the theme shows, especially on multi-currency stores. I implement Product, Offer, AggregateRating, BreadcrumbList and Organization markup at template level from a single source of truth, disable duplicate app output, and validate everything against rendered HTML rather than the theme editor preview.

    Performance and the app stack

Every app you install can inject scripts on every page. I audit the stack app by app with measured runtime cost, remove or replace what is not earning its weight, move remaining third-party tags to a controlled loading strategy, and fix image sizing, font loading and Liquid render cost. The target is passing field data in Search Console, not a one-off lab score.

    Illustrative Engagement

    A representative scenario

    The problem

A fashion store had strong product rankings but almost no visibility on category terms, and Search Console showed a large volume of crawled-not-indexed filter URLs.

    The approach

Filter URLs were brought under a deliberate crawl policy, the twelve highest-demand collections were rebuilt with buying-intent content and internal links, and duplicated app schema was replaced with template-level markup.

    The outcome

Crawl activity concentrated on real templates and the rebuilt collections started competing for their category terms instead of only long-tail product queries.

Composite scenario based on typical engagements. Replace with a real, attributed case study once published.
